Cordaitales

An extinct order of gymnosperms, thought to have originated some time before the Carboniferous period and to have persisted into the Triassic. They were arborescent and in some of their vegetative structures resembled certain modern conifers, notably the monkey-puzzle (Araucaria araucana).
