(golden-brown algae) A division made up predominantly of flagellate unicellular * algae but also containing some colonial and filamentous forms. These algae usually have two golden-brown plastids in each cell and food is stored as leucosin or fat. In some classifications the Chrysophyta also includes the yellow-green algae, the diatoms, and the Haptophyceae on the basis that these three groups share a number of features with the golden-browns. These include accumulating food reserves as the polysaccharide leucosin, having siliceous or calcareous cell walls more or less conspicuously divided into two parts, and having a flimmer flagellum.
